We only did this once. Thought we'd carry him the whole time, but he fell asleep and with my sweather and his blanket we found the perfect bed for him while we shopped. This did give us a lot more cart space.

You really can find anything at Wal-Mart!
Lisa and I are trying to avoid having two shopping carts while shopping, but it's hard when you find things to put in the cart that you just can't pass up:

The trick is to clip the car seat on the basket part where the kids are suppose to sit. I usually always carry my baby in the snugli as they seem to start crying as soon as I get in the store. Though your way makes a much cuter picture :).
